Hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

Thing is im moving servers soon and need to transfer over my databases, I
can create the accounts easy enough, and have no problem modifying the
databases so things work ok.

The problem i have is how do i convert a .gz (gzip) to a .tar.gz (tar.gzip).

I can expand the gzip easy enough but have searched all over the place for
an application to then convert it to .tar.gz.

Any ideas ? as my new server will only accept .tar.gz backup files.

maybe

tar -czvf arch.tar.gz filenames

the the z option filters the output thru gzip. If your running *unix try
man tar for more info.

gzip -d my.gz
tar cf my.tar my
gzip my.tar

(Of course, building a tarball to hold just one file is insane, but it
sounds like you've been landed with bad software on your new server)
