Post subject: iis & xp - http 500 error
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I've just installed windows XP (with iis) on my home
machine. As soon as I try accessing http://127.0.0.1 or
http://localhost, I get an http 500 error. I've try a
bunch of different things:
1. At one point, I even removed iis from the machine. I
was still getting the same http 500 error (oddly!).
2. I tried accessing the server from another machine.
That works (surprisingly).
3. I've tried placing a simple .html page. Still the same
error.
4. I've tried to telnet into the server and get the
document. Still no use.

When I look at the logs, there is not entry for the error
request.

My other xp machine (with iis) has been running merrily...

Any help will be appreciated.

thanks,
ks

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

In Internet Explorer goto Tools -> INternet Options -> Advanced and uncheck
"Show Friendly HTTP Errors", and reload the page. Then post the real error
message.

Cheers
