Post subject: Can't Get it working Right
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

I've made several attempts to install Apache, but could never get it
to work right. I actually had it running priorly on an install of
ColdFusion 4.0 but installed a new HDD. When I was re-installing
image to new HDD got a virus or hacker attack, last July, blew
everything including my image file, so lost that config.

I found a tip at:

http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/Apache/Installing-PHP-under-Windows/

and followed to the "T". I'm running Win 98 on this machine. Apache
installed on first run and did not go at all, so I did a uninstall
then re-ran the install.

Now I have ApacheMonitor running (can see in process window
Ctl+Alt+Del) and it shows on the status portion of the Taskbar, but
there is no response from:

http://localhost

I'm sure it is some sort of config problem.

I posted a help request at the previous tip site but, as you see, it
is not a support source since I posted on 3/17/04 and my post is still
the last post and still unanswered todate. Post is seen at:

http://forums.devarticles.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5410

I was searching the Apache help groups and found:

http://apache-server.com/

with a reference to chat at IRC.freenode.net so I went there looking
for help.

When I logged in they asked for a Nick registry and pointed to:

http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#nicksetup

I went there but it was so ambiguous and criptic I had no idea what it
was talking about. (another bunch of programmers violating their prime
directive to not be ambiguous nor assume anything). Therefore I never
got on.

I kept stumbling around and found this site. I'm hoping this submit
gets me past my problems. I would look at the config on Apache, but
can not find anything that let's me know where to look.

If anyone knows what I need to look at I sure would appreciate the
help.

Thanks!
