It's no different than www.mycompany.com

That's a subdomain. If you own the domain (mycompany.com) or have an
arrangement with the domain owner you can use it.

Your hosting would have to have subdomains enabled for your account.

Page-Zone offers this and I use it quite often. Smile

Good luck,

nitpicking here: sub domains don't have to resolve to the same sever or even
the same host.

is there a host that can't handle sub domains?

Yep - loads of them, mainly resellers, people that use hosting controller
and can't do it themselves, people....
well, yep loads of them, quite a number of them charge quite a bit for it,
good to see that some can! It's also kinda complicated in Windows 2K to keep
them reliably working ... Hope that helps

What you are asking about is a subdomain, like www, www.mydomain.com
would be a subdomain. You can setup a subdomain to point to the same
web page as the main domain, or entirely different pages on different
hosts. Some hosts do not offer subdomains, others like ourselves,
(www.webquarry.com) offer unlimited subdomains.

most companies don't really talk about "WWW" as a seperate subdomain, its
just one of those things that isn't done... dunno why, I know that
technically it is... and if I recall correctly (from being told) this is
back to when on the WWW it was really there way of saying the Public part of
the computer, just a way of listing which part was for public consumtion....

Dunno if thats an accurate history of it...

No. "www" is the traditional subdomain for the *web server.* The mail
server, Usenet server, etc. would be on other subdomains.
