At my house, we have access to our neighbor's WIFI and they to ours. There
are only 2 houses on our block...ours and theirs. We both have pretty big
yards, obviously. You should have no trouble.

In my experience wireless is not too reliable. A signal booster may extend
the distance some but they all drop the connection all the time. I've had
wireless set up with a signal booster (and without) drop the connection as
little as three feet from the router. I think it has more to do with signal
interference than signal strength. The only way to know for sure is to try
it. But your freind is right probably right. I can get about halfway into my
back yard (50 feet) before losing the signal completely and that is with a
Linksys router and Linksys signal booster. >> Stay informed about: this wi-fi thing |

Without looking it up, I'd say no difference besides wavelenth. If memory
serves me correctly bluetooth doesn't require as much power to operate. I
have had better wireless reliability by unplugging the cordless phone and
microwave oven, but that just pisses everyone else off in the house. >> Stay informed about: this wi-fi thing |

To me, 'technical school' generally means a place like ITT or DeVry that
supposedly teaches about computers and such.
In that light - makes me wonder about the quality of education at that
'technical school'. >> Stay informed about: this wi-fi thing |

As far as "what it says on the box" -
Generally, those claims assume ideal conditions. It WILL do 200 meters -
clear line-of-sight on a clear day with NOTHING in between. >> Stay informed about: this wi-fi thing |

You have to secure your stuff, yeah. Our neighbors haven't, which is why we
sometimes accidentally connect to theirs.

Haa - if your losing in chess you could take it up a notch and at least win
the fistfight. Then swear to not drink and play chess ever again the next
morning. >> Stay informed about: this wi-fi thing |
