Lately, about once every week or two, I find it impossible to reach my
website and email. At first I thought it was a DNS lookup problem at
my ISP, since other people can reach it, but using tracert shows that
the snag is occuring further out - always at the same point after
hitting one of the servers at cogentco.com. This is getting rather
annoying, to say the least, since the problem sometimes lasts a few
hours!
Is there any possible way for me to work around this?
TIA,

From the relative comfort of the boardroom, <mgw1979 RemoveThis @hotmail.com> patched

a search for 'cogentco routing problem' returns a few hits

Unfortunately, not an option for now

So, it seems like people world wide are having problems with Cogentco.
I assume there's no way to get them out of the loop or force a routing
around them? What a PITA!

Although you may be tied to the ISP, are you tied to the email address? Get
a hotmail/msn/yahoo address (or some such other free one) until you can
change ISP's. And while you're at it, set your current one to automatic
forwarding - that MAY help with the mail not getting through, depending on
exactly where the problem lies...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: weird routing problem |

For much of my mail? Yes, it's my professional address.

Thanks for the suggestion, but 95% of the time I don't want automatic
forwarding for a variety of reasons. I have that for another address,
and it means there are that many more places where problems can occur
and mail go down or get lost.
