In your opinions, what sites combine beauty and function very well? I'd like
to see the sites that you think are aesthetically pleasing while providing
clear navigation. With this question, I'm not concerned about content or
what's under the hood ("bonnet" in UK English). If we see sites that look
really good to us, we can get some ideas and create our own code (and add
our own content, of course).

This NG has had lots of threads about the worst sites. I thought it would be
good to look at the opposite for a change. I also want to get some new
ideas.

Might I nominate the sites featured at the following site:

Yeh, I like the cleanlieness and structure of your designs.

The old Webpage Workshop was a good looker!

Hell yeah, it's a good site - Easy to find exactly what you do, what you
offer, how to get in touch, samples of pricing and contracts, without nine
metric tons of crap to wade through to get to any of it Smile

K.I.S.S. is good Smile

I guess that can be a good thing. You probably won't like my newer,
slightly more adventurous stuff then Very Happy

Does that mean the new(er) one isn't?

The newer one, as one would expect from you, is clean and useable, so would
fit my normal description of a good site, i.e it's easy to use and
delivers.

On pure aesthetics, I don't think it's as pretty as the older one. Main
reason being it is slightly looser. The old one was tidier with everything
in boxes/clearly defined sections.

In my own humble opinion.

IIRC, you still haven't said what you consider a good looking site Smile

I see it's much easier to name bad sites than good ones. Wink

I'm hoping that more people will post links to really good sites.

That's beautiful. Very artistic. IMO it could be more functional with more
space for text and less for visual effects, but I certainly don't have the
talent to create anything like that.

Functional and nice-looking. It's easy to read and navigate.

From another post in this thread:

Grey, your site gets my vote for the best combination of beauty and
function. It's stunning with clear navigation and easy-to-read text. It also
has a Canadian feel, maybe because I'm on the West Coast and dolphins and
whales live in our back yard. I'm impressed.

"...warm and sunny Ontario" ??

More sites, anyone?

Lois, I don't claim to have anything near the best. I like to keep it
pure and simple. I believe in keeping it simple you do not have the
problem of trying to keep up with the lastest browsers or versions.

My sites are plain, (no tricks) html.

Blessings!
