Post subject: a web site watcher - can't find one
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I use to have a program that checked web sites and reported back if
the web site was down. Since a hard drive crash several months ago I
have never been able to find it again. I think it was freeware or
shareware.

I thought it was call web site watcher but google gives only a program
called watch my domains which just reports the registration
information and if you need to renew the domain.

Does anyone know of such a program for checking the status of a web
site (if it is up or down)?

Thanks

Forging a path through the alt.www.webmaster jungle, armed only with a

This is a fairly trivial script/program in almost any language.

Does it need to run from your web site or local?

Should it run on demand or according to a schedule?

Servers Alive will run on your machine and check each few minutes, or
however often you decide. And call you if your site is down (if you want it
to).

It is free for the first ten things you monitor, then you pay about $90 USD

I believe there are quite a few companies that offer this. Personally I use
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.siteuptime.com," target="_blank">www.siteuptime.com,</a> which give you one free account. They e-mail you when
your site goes down (and when it comes up again) and give you an e-mail at
the end of each month summarising your up time.

regards,

Brian.
