Post subject: New web hosting company, credit card question
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Would it make it easier for me to get a merchant account at the best
rate if I were able to use one of the old fashioned card imprinters
and get an imprint and their signature on the slip, instead of doing
CNP transactions?

I could get custom credit card slips that had my TOS and whatever
legal mumbo-hombo necessary to help prevent chargebacks and litigation
printed on them. I could keep them on file and produce them in case
of dispute.

I am focusing my services towards local companies and really don't
want to take on anyone more than an hour's drive away. So that allows
me to meet with them face to face, and I thought a old card imprinter,
while outdated, would be just as effective without the high cost.

Thank you.

Yes, it will likely reduce your rates by wuite a bit.....The reason rates
are so high for online transactions is because of the risk involved with
Card Not Present transactions.....

Why run with old technology like a trundle through imprinter?.....You're
likely to get even lower rates if you use modern equipment that your
merchant bank can supply to you......You can get mobile PDQ terminals now,
which connect back using mobile phone technology......
The banks introduced the new systems such as "Chip and Pin" for a
reason.....If they see that you're willing to take advantage of such
security features, the they're more likely to drop your rates even
further.....
