You should only use those review sites as a links farm ... the good ones
are current, the bad ones have lots of broken links. If they use
affiliate links to hosts, you have no reason to expect them to be
objective. There really isn't any way to skip the research process, but
once you've narrowed it down to a few choices, ask around and see what
sort of experience others have with them.
Word-of-mouth is still the best way to build an good, reputable business
so if you hear alot of good things about a host (minus a profitable
agenda), you can usually put your trust in people who've been there,
done that.
Alot of people recommend webhostingtalk.com but I don't see any more
objectivity there than anywhere else.
P.S. Don't do business with spammers ... they won't be IN business long
enough for you to get your money's worth.
