And how, exactly, is "Web Calls" defined?

Correct...Broadband calls / VoIP
http://news.com.com/Feds+back+wiretap+rules+for+Internet/2100-7352_3-5296417
..html
Most interesting is this
"The FCC also indicated that broadband and VoIP providers subject to the
law would have to pay the costs of buying equipment to follow the law. By
contrast, from 1997 through 2001, Congress appropriated a total of $500
million to reimburse analog phone companies for the costs of complying
with CALEA."

The US does not honour borders. E.g., here in Canada the US is grabbing
personal data about Canadians in violation of Canadian privacy laws. >> Stay informed about: You are watched by FBI |

This is why encryption is essential.

Is there evidence to suggest this, or is it just another *black helicopters*
style paranoid conspiracy theory?.....
I don't doubt that they may be monitoring the communications of politicians
and industry captains from most countries (including allies).....That's what
all intelligence gathering agencies do, all over the world, even here in the
UK......However, I sincerely doubt that they are creating personal dossiers
and files on every single *Joe* on the street......And I find it even harder
to beleive that they are monitoring the content of every single usenet post,
telephone call, and email sent anywhere in the world, despite what the
*2600* community would have you believe about project Carnivore......If that
were the case, the FBI would be the world authority on Viagra, pyramid
schemes, and penis enlargements.....Or perhaps they already are

FBI is watching more recently. Somebody's naked IM chat was intercepted the
other day. Her nuke picture and messages were posted on some website for
viewing. At first, it was thought that the partner was posting the pictures
and messages, but after seeing so many other pictures and messages, it can
be concluded either a proxy server or some datacenter person are logging
some port transmissions. It only shows how easy for somebody to sniff
internet traffics, it they want to.
Man, constant thread by big brothers make us no where to hide.
Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail all allow FBI to scan messages for keywords
without even letting the public know. You can run this test yourself. Try to
send yourself with some sentive keywords, your home will broken in within 24
hours. That was the case for a guy in Florida. He posted constantly senstive
but no harm information on a political newsgroup. He was arrested but
released without any charge. It happened in Dec/2003 or Early/2004. I could
not see that person any more.
Also be careful on political newsgroups, if you are a democrat or anti war.
FBI sometimes posts democrat or anti-war messages and wait for people to
follow up then track those people who support it. >> Stay informed about: You are watched by FBI |

Done....Test commenced.....If you don't hear from me after 24 hours, then
you'll know you were right.....In fact, best give it 48 hours to allow the
FBI to fly across from the states.....They might try asking the British
police to come round and arrest me, but I don't think that's likely to
happen.....Not unless I was speeding in my car when I sent the email to
myself.....

Wait up...What's that noise outside my window....Darn it.....It's those
black helicopters come to abduct me and anally probe me again.....Okay,
where did I put my tin foil helmet?.....Their mind control rays won't get me
this time..... >> Stay informed about: You are watched by FBI |
