Post subject: w3wp.exe looses pages on running Queries for long time.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have an ASP.NET application running on Windows 2003 server. The application basically parses large files and loads into an Sql database. I am using SQL server 2000. The problem is that after I trigger the loading process in some time I get the error message "Page cannot be displayed..". I ran Sql profiler and I see that all the parsed data is loaded into the database and commited. But after that it is supposed to redirect me to nect page whcih it doesn't. I have large files to parse the whole file processing time may vary from file to file. On an average it takes around 10 minutes to load one file. So till that time ther is no activity on the page. I ran IIs state on w3wp.exe and this what I got.

are some setting to be done on Metabase.xml. Can anyone analyse this log info.

This looks idle. No queries running, etc.

Hi Pat

I ran IISState after I got the "Page cannot be displayed error". I will try to run it again at various stages and post it again. Does ASP.NET applications on IIS 6.0 read from Web.config or Machine.config file. I have gone through one of the articles on Microsoft support site the link is :

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2Fservicedesks%2Fwebca...%2Fen%2

according to this it doesn't read from machine.config, except for 3 parameters. Can you throw some light on it.

In my app I load files with size 30-40MB. We have httpRuntime tag in the Machine.config file in which we can override the maxRequestLength to desired value. We have few servers running on XP and IIS 5.1 there the application works perfectly fine. The latest server is Windows 2003, and the app fails after file is loaded. But if IIS6.0 doesn't read from the config file then where do we overrride these values? Is it the MetaBase.xml file?

Thanks
Shekhar

Here is the log when I ran it again today.

I used > iisstate -p 2780 -d -sc

I sometimes gives (adc.850): Access violation - code c0000005 (first chance) continuously on the prompt. And also displays a message box saying IISState.Exe applcation error , memory cannot be read. I opened the log and here is what was written.

This failed in managed code. If you open the .dmp file that was created
using WinDBG, you may be able to debug it using the sos.dll (check your
framework directory) to see if you can identify the problem.

Hi Pat

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure how to interpret the problem and how to SOS.dll to identify it using Windbg. I opened the dump file created by iisstate in WinDBug.exe which gives the disassembly code. I ran iisstate on a different machine with same configuration (windows 2003 server and IIS 6.0). Now I got a more elaborate message as follows:

Does this give any additional information?
