Post subject: visitors systems (a lot of Windows NT )
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

hi, does anyone know why I get so many visitors using Windows NT 5.1 or 5 to
my website ?

I admit I am from a Mac background and so know little about people's preferences
for Windows. But I thought most people would be using the general consumer
versions of Windows like Windows XP, Windows 98, Win 2000, etc.

Is this a bug in one of these versions of windows or browsers that reports
their systems as NT when it is really Windows XP or something ?

I thought NT was more a 'serious version of Windows'...like Windows trying
to be UNIX, and used for server applications etc. I can't believe from my
stats and my own logging scripts that most of these people are using NT when
I am just running a general fun website, not a heavy tech site.

Please give me some insight here,

Many thanks !

Chris

Hi Chris,

My main website gets several BeOS, Lynx, OS/2, and even Unix and Windows 3.11 hits each month.
You'd be surprised what folks are still using out there... which is why I write my sites to work
with as many browsers and OS'es as possible Smile

And as most already pointed out, Windows NT 5.0 is Windows 2000 and Windows 5.1 is XP.
