Hi,
I have IIS 5 located on a Win2000Pro workstation. I want
to create a virtual directory pointing to a winnt40 server
share with browse capabilities. Both computers are in the
same domain. When I create the share in IIS, it creates
but shows a stop sign beside it. When I try to access the
share, i get an "enter network password" screen. Even if
I enter the required information, it does not show me the
contents of the folder but keeps bringing me back to the
login screen.
I have followed the steps of article 285159 (I realize
this is not a netware issue but it is along the same
lines) to give inetuser access to browse anonymously and I
have created this user on the domain with the same
password. I still get this "enter network password"
screen. Is there a way to do what I want to do? I want
to be able to browse a directory that's on an nt40 server
share through the IIS5 website.
Thanks in advance for your help,

Constance,
One thing to try would be to map a drive to the NT4 share
and use that drive as the path for your virtual directory.

I've done that. There is a share mapped and that's what I
used to create the virtual directory.

just to save some work for those who have the same
problem, I ended up having to give the user on the remote
computer where the share was the "log on locally" right.
That seemed to have fixed my issue.

I would caution that mapping a drive is not going to work unless you will
always be logged on to the computer.
