Joan,
First of all the link you should be trying is <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://locahost" target="_blank">http://locahost</a> (not
http:\\localhost\InetPub\wwwRoot). Your site might be pointing to
C:\inetpub\wwwroot. Can you browse an asp or html page successfully?
Check your event logs to see what error/warning is logged corresponding to
the Server Application Unavailable error. You can either post the logs here
or search <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com</a> to find out the reason for those
errors. Without knowing what is causing the problem, I wouldn't recommend
that you apply any hotfixes or patches.
Thanks,
