Post subject: upgrade to ASP.Net 1.1 on IIS Management console 5.1
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello:

I am using IIS Console 5.1

When I tried to create my first web project, I got the following message:

"Visual Studio.Net has detected that the Web server is running ASP.Net version 1.0. The Web application you are creating or trying to open can be configured to be compliant with ASP.Net.

However, the Application would not be able to use new features from ASP.Net 1.1."

I did come across the following KB article that describes how to upgrade:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817267

However, when I launch the IIS Management console (version 2.0), I am not able to figure out how I can choose the option, Web Service Extensions. When I checked for the IIS version it says it's 5.1.

The above KB article refers to IIS 6.0.

Do I have to upgrade to IIS 6.0 to solve this problem? I hear that 6.0 comes with Windows 2003. I am running Windows XP professional.

Can somebody guide me?

Thoroughly confused
Venkat

Go to Windows Update and install the .NET Framework version 1.1.

Tom:

I also downloaded IIS 6.0 Administration tool and installed it. So, I have IIS Manager and IIS Manager(IIS6) under Control Panel/Administrative Tools.

I did launch the IIS6 Manager and searched for Web services in the Help. It says that when I expand the machine, I should see a node called "Web Service Extensions".

But I don't! The only nodes I see are Web Sites, FTP Sites, Default SMTP Virtual Server.

Can you guide me?

Tom:

The error message when away after I executed "aspnet_regiis -i" at the command prompt! It said it was installing ASP.Net 1.1.

Thanks.

That's because WXP only runs IIS5 and "Web Service Extensions" is an IIS6
feature (which only runs on Windows Server 2003).
