Hi, I will be hosting a website that will attract 4 million visitors a
month (please don't ask how I know this). The website will contain a
lot of images and a ton of message boards. Can someone tell me what
type of Internet connection I will need and what type of and how many
servers I will need.

you'll need a dedicated server. maybe more than one, depending on the
content of the sites, and the server specifications.
It's not gonna be cheap, I'm guessing you're looking at close to
$200/mo, if you only need one server.
I always check out <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.webhostingtalk.com" target="_blank">www.webhostingtalk.com</a> when it's time to get a
dedicated server. some of the guys are reputable, and offer good
prices, some aren't.
Personally, I like Server4You.com for low-cost servers. Actually, their
"DualPower" system has some pretty nice specs. I'd prefer dual hard
disks on RAID, but you get what you pay for. For that price, I'd buy two
servers, and have one set up as a backup system, to mirror everything on
the other at a regular interval. That way, if the main system dies,
you'll have a quick backup ready.

visitors, what processes will the server run to deliver the content?
Any peak times in your trade? what variance over normal traffic and for
how long?
You probably won't get a definitive answer on Usenet. At least, not one
that I would wish to rely on.
