| I'm running a test website on IIS 5.1/XP Professional. The
| problem started when I tried to check out an asp file for
| editing in Visual Interdev 6. When I tried, I got the
| following error message: "cannot open file 'service.lck'
| for writing". Everything I tried to do with the web
| project in both Interdev and FrontPage 2000 met with a
| similar error message. I even tried to remove the project
| from source control in Interdev. Same results. I checked
| several knowledge bases which advised many different
| solutions, none of which worked. After about 4 hours, I
| concluded that the server extensions themselves were
| corrupt. So I removed them from the web project using the
| server extensions administrative tool in the MMC console.
| Then I tried to reinstall them by right-clicking on the
| website in IIS, selecting: all tasks >> configure server
| extensions from the popup menu. After selecting my options
| and hitting the "finish" button, it started to install.
| Then I got hit with the error "unable to hide _vti_script"
| and the process terminated. I then downloaded the latest
| set of extensions (2002) and installed. When I tried to
| configure the web to use the newer extensions, I received
| the error "unable to create file 'service.cnf'" or
| something like it. I need to get source control on my web
| project back up & running pronto. Please help!
