I have a web site hosted with the free service provided by tripoid. I
was in the process of registering a domain (with godaddy) so I could
point it at my web site, but they asked me about the nameserver and
there's when I stopped. So far I Know the name should be something
like NS1.mysite.com but I don't know if it will work. I read something
like tripod does let free subscribers point a top level dns to their
site. My question is: a) is this possible, and if so, b) what is
tripod's name server? Your posting will be appreciated. >> Stay informed about: tripod and nameserver |

| I forgot to say that I am aware Tripod offers both services, Domain
registration and web hosting but as someone recommend, it is better to
have both services with different providers, that way I have fully
control of my Domain.

According to that information, when clicking on Free, they only offer
this for URL thoughts:
• Shorter URLs – Get a memorable Web address based on your member
name.
http://www.tripod.lycos.com/compare/compare.html has it looking like
they allow you to point a domain name their way until you upgrade to
their $8.95 a month plan. Not unusual as many free site hosting
places, like Tripod or GeoCities, offer that perk for free.

Hate it when my eyes play tricks on me:

Ask Tripod - you will need to let them know you are using a domain name
anyway. >> Stay informed about: tripod and nameserver |

If you've got a domain, you may as well get proper hosting for it.
www.staghosting.com is the best free host I've seen, with NO adverts!
My site is hosted there... >> Stay informed about: tripod and nameserver |

Was just about to say the same thing .
Proper web hosting is pretty cheap and you dont get banners or popup
windows all over the place .
