I'm still slogging through the process myself, but I will try to save
you a few weeks of work with what I've discovered.
Yahoo! outsources all of its actual registration of domains to
Melbourne IT. It used to be that Yahoo! kept your Domain Registry Key,
a critical part of changing your DNS information at Melbourne IT, on
file and would release it to you once you jumped through a number of
hoops.
According to Yahoo! (and take it for what it's worth,) recent changes
in ICANN policies make it illegal for Yahoo! to give you this
information. You have to get it from MelbourneIT.
The problem is that MelbourneIT doesn't have the tools in place to
give out this information through people formerly handled through
their resellers.
Allegedly, you can get your domain information sent to the e-mail
address of record if you take the following steps:
1. Go to <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/recover/index." target="_blank">http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/recover/index.</a>
2. Enter your domain name. This will cause the system to fail.
3. When the system fails, it will provide you with a link to a PDF
that you are supposed to print out and mail or Fax (I kid you not) to
MelbourneIT in Australia.
Allegedly, at that point, they will send you the information you need.
I can't confirm this yet as I'm still waiting for the owner of the
domain I'm working with to sign the paperwork I need to fax to
Australia to make this happen.
Good luck. Please let me know if this turns out to be another dead
end.
