Website promotion can be a daunting task, as there are many options
available (search engine submissions, pay-per-click programs, paid
advertising, etc.). Many of these options cost money, and having not
tried them and measured your ROI (return on investment), it may be
difficult to swallow the bill for these services.
There are things that can be done online for free, however, and it can
be surprising how effective they can be!
(1) Hang out in newsgroups and online discussion forums.
Posting messages and answering questions in newsgroups & forums can
get you established as an expert in your area. If people read what you
write and believe that you're an expert, then they may be more
inclined to visit your website for more of the same. Be sure to
include a signature in all of your postings which includes your
website address (www.totsafe.com)... this tells people how to find
you online! (see my signature at the end of this message.)
(2) Write articles and post them on other websites
Once again... establish yourself as an expert in your area. If you can
write an article and get it published on another website which has
traffic, then some of that traffic may end up at YOUR site (be sure to
have your website address included at the beginning/end of the
article). Website owners which provide information for their visitors
are often looking for good content/info for their sites, so this
shouldn't be hard to do; simply start searching for websites which are
somewhat related to yours, but not direct competetors (parenting
websites, etc.).
(3) Start a newsletter
One way to make the most of your website traffic is to get them to
return again and again. One way to do this is with an email
newsletter. This accomplishes two things... it (once again)
establishes yourself as an expert (by providing useful information to
your readers), and it reminds people that you're still around. If you
sell stuff on your site, then you could even send out discount coupons
to your subscribers. Everyone loves to save money, right?!?
There are other techniques that can be used for promoting your website
online, but these should get you started. Let me know how they work!
