I contacted the hosts, Cyberwurks, and they were very helpfull.....They gave
the guy 24 hours to remove my address from the page, and mine and my wifes
names from the meta content......
He didn't comply, so they took action by removing the offending page
completely......
I must say, I'm very impressed by how they dealt with this matter, and their
support guy was most friendly and helpfull......

Did he just take your word for it Sam, or did you fax him proof of your
address/identity?

Thats not always necessary.
For example, the host might know for sure that the other person is not this
person

He didn't ask for it.....I suppose he might have checked the archives that
the new webmaster copied and pasted the old page from, and seen that the
current page was a piss poor paste from it, with the address
in-tact.....Then I guess it wouldn't have taken a great leap to check with
nominet and tie this up with the address that the domain had previously been
owned at, then compare that to the name and address where it's now
owned......
Besides, I think he was happy enough to do it simply because the nature of
the links contravened the companies terms and conditions......

Not sure I do Gordon.
I was a host for a year. I would never enter into any disputes (only
got two I think) I told them I would only act on a Court Order.
Which is how it should be.

I don't think it was someone who does this as a line of work.....
I have very good reasons to suspect it was someone I used to work for,
trying to damage my reputation......
The guy who owned the website I used to maintain. Not mentioning any names,
but it can be easily found by checking the signatures on my posts around 4
or 5 months ago.....
Anyway, he's started a campaign of signing us up for all manner of
spam......He makes nuissance phone calls, normally witholding his number (he
forgot to do this once so we know he's doing it).....Makes bogus orders for
massively huge values, obviously in the deluded beleif that we get charged
by our merchant bank for failed transactions......
The fact that I branched off and set up my own venture is still eating him
up inside, and he's resorting to some very childish measures, including
sending me an invoice recently for some trumped up services valued at
£1600.....Strangely enough, he got an invoice by return post for £1600 worth
of webmastering services, hosted links, and out-of-hours work.....
I honestly never expected him to go to the trouble and expense of
registering a domain and paying for hosting though......

You might want to report him to the police and/or have a lawyer write
him a "cease and desist" letter. People like that who keep escalating
the harassment sometimes won't stop until they've done real damage -
it may seem like nothing now, but it could become dangerous.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: The thing about my old domain |

Don't have to be bar certified to understand basic principles (well for
-most- of us). A quick look into most states statutes will find the
appropriate section.
