Usually wholesalers are looking for a Tax Resale Certificate from your
state. This shows the wholesaler that your are a retailer and collect sales
taxes from your customers, so they don't have to charge you sales tax.
Wholesalers also request that number to verify that you are a real retailer
or dealer, and not someone just requesting information or a catalog to find
out what retailers are paying for their merchandise.
The tax id number I think your talking about is your EIN, Employer
Identification Number. An EIN is a nine-digit number (for example,
12-3456789) assigned to sole proprietors, corporations, partnerships,
estates, trusts, and other entities for tax filing and reporting purposes.
Since your are not incorporated your usually have the option of using your
Social Security number.
As always, check with your account and lawyer to make sure your following
all the rules of your state and country.
Good Luck,
Dave
