Post subject: apache takes down the whole server
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

Hi everybody,

it seems like I have a serious problem here with apache configuration. The LAMP
application is running a apache 1.3.x version and does well perform nearly all
the time.
But then, suddenly the system starts trottling down. It starts to swap and at 1
gig swap file we have a server load of 12. After I restart apache graceful, the
system is back to normal (0.5). This happens every now and then. Maybe after 1
day, maybe after 14 days. There is one gig of ram on board and this should not
be the problem.

Can anybody suggest how to fix that?

Thank you for any help,

Merlin

Since the problem seems random is hard to tell. Try to pinpoint when
exactly the system become instable. Can it be a problem of overheating?
Can it be a problem due to some process going bonker?

may be a memory leak in some php module/function that is not used very
often. Make sure you use the latest stable release of every software on
your box.
