Post subject: switching between servers
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Our web server uses IIs 4.0, we currently have 9 servers
that receive the traffic for our site, at times a server
can crash and a customer calls us complaining, since we
access the backdoor of the website functions on the real
world servers,
is there a way when typing in the URL to be able to select
a specific server so that we can trouble shoot to verify
that the issues are on the server side or client side.
or even if we happen to be on the offending server so that
we can switch in order to keep using it.

In case it matters, it is https://www.shoprogers.com and
routing to specific servers seems to be based on IP and
not whether the server is working or not, since I seem to
get server 9 every time even after deleating cookies and
clearing the cache.

any help would be great.. thanks

It all depends on what you're using to determine routing. The MS solution
is Network Load Balancing and Application Center. When one server dies, it
gets taken out of the mix so requests won't get sent there.
