Hi,

I am having problems in starting IIS on my Windows 2000 machine. After
installation, I tried starting the IIS. If gives an error in the Event Log
saying

The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated with the following
error: The authentication service is unknown.

Request you to help me in correcting this.

This is a standalone machine, Windows 2000. I am not in any network. I use
dial-up to connect to the Internet.

Check to see if Client for Microsoft Networks is properly
installed under My Network Places. The web service will
not work without it. See the following link for details:

Ensure you have the following installed:

NIC
MS client
file/print sharing
tcp/ip
