Just an obvious Q (but you did not mention you checked it)...

Be sure that firus blockers and firewalls do not block port 80 and do not
block scripting (vbscript)...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Is this error happening before or AFTER you've been playing around with the
Debugger setting as well as the Services settings?

Hello David,
This error has no correlation with the debugger settings asked in my
earlier mail.
Please allow me to wipe out some confusion.
I have 2 machines with me.
1) WinXP / IIS 5.1 - Here I am trying to play with Debugger settings.
2) Win2k3 / IIS 6.0 - Recently got this machine and installed IIS 6.0.
Here After installation, I am not able to start IIS 6.0. Its a
completely fresh machine and there is no playing around with iis so far
, cause Its not yet ready.
Thanks and Regards,
Barkha Shah

Is this machine a Domain Controller.
Is this machine clean installed or just has never had IIS installed on it.
Does %SYSTEMROOT%\IIS6.LOG report any errors.

Hi Wang,
This machine is a stand-alone pc and cleanly installed with no IIS earlier
..
Actually win2k3 was not installed properly due to which there was problem in
starting iis.
As a solution I reformated the machine and installed the OS again. Now Its
working fine.
Am really Sorry for the trouble.
Thanks
barkha

One thing to note in the future when you suspect setup issues for IIS --
check out:
%SYSTEMROOT%\IIS6.LOG -- IIS6 setup log -- should not have any "fail" in it
%SYSTEMROOT%\SETUPERR.LOG -- Windows-wide setup log -- ideally should be 0
bytes

Thanks a ton Wang.
People like me can now troubleshoot things on their own before jumping to
