Post subject: iis will not start. Does not recognize computer name
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have iis installed, but the services

World Wide Web Publishing Service
SMTP
FTP

will not start. They are assigned to start automatically
but do not. When I try to start them, I receive an error
message
"Could not start the World Wide Web Publishing Service
service on the local computer.

ERROR 1008: An attempt was made to reference a token that
does not exist"

I have searched and searched, but have not found a
solution that works.
I changed the name Metabase.bin, to Metabase.old, then
uninstalled, reinstalled iis. Did not work
I uninstalled all of the service packs, then reinstalled.
Did not work.

Any ideas??

A token is simply a user account
did you delete IUSR_computer or IWAM_computer?
did you change anything with these accounts?
Did you change domain controllers for your IIS server?

Last but not least download and run from www.sysinternals.com TOKEN monitor.
It will show you *which* token your system is missing...
That tool is pretty straight forward it must help you to solve it.

Tried to use the TOKEN monitor. Did not make sense to
me. I did not see where it would show you a token.
Any suggestions?
