is possible to start the apache-server so that a missing directory in

Ok i got the following name based hosts defined:

<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80>
ServerName mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /home/www/mydomain.com/htdocs/
</VirtualHost>

When i try to start apache and
/home/www/mydomain.com/htdocs/
doesn't exist, apache doesn't start.

Sometimes i delete a ServerDocRoot so i got a apache not starting.
Can i do something about that?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Well... the first thing I can think of is: when you delete a
docroot, delete ALSO the associated VHost. The second thing is
CHECK your configuration file before starting.

why would you possibly WANT to start the server with a failure?
why not just EMPTY the doc root if you plan on using the vhost later on?
