Hi,

We have the aforementioned running two ASP nlbs servers connecting to a sql
cluster. It would seem that our servers periodically are unable to connect
to the sql server after being active for some time. Would anyone be able to
make a suggestion as to where we might start looking to diagnose the
problem?

Thanks
Tiff,

Perhaps if you told us some of the symptoms of the problem, we might be able
to help. For all we know there could be a bunch of very intelligent
squirrels living in your company's ceiling that are constantly chewing
through, and repairing your network cables...

Hi,

We've looked for squirrels and no luck I'm afraid.

As I said we use 2 x nlbs servers running iis5 on w2k. The website starts
with a login page derived from the Microsoft recommended method of using
sessions. The servers seem to run fine for a while but after a couple of
hours no one can login. The web pages are still served, but it looks as if
the server cannot communicate with the db to execute the authentication
process. If I stop wlbs and do iisreset this seems to fix the problem. I've
checked the eventlog and there is nothing. Wwe have other virtual websites
running off the same servers with the same configuration (not exactly the
same.....for obvious reasons) and they have no problem. I was thinking that
this could be a memory leak with asp or is that just being
stupid.......squirrels is beginning to seem possible??

Thanks,
Tiff

Is this site ASP based? If so, have you created a custom 500:100 error
handler? You can use the ASPError object to get details of the 500 error
(and log this someplace, or get it emailed to you). If there is some kind
connectivity problem, you'll start seeing OLEDB errors being logged...

Cheers

Hi,

It would appear that appear that our clients lose their session state and
have to login again. We're not actually getting any oledb errors.

Are you using native ASP sessions to store state? Or are you running
ASP.Net?
You say that people can't login for a few hours? What happens during those
few hours?

Cheers
Ken

Hi Ken,

Sorry seems I didn't make myself clear. Everything runs fine for a few hours
and then we get the message below and some of our servers lose the ability
to connect to the sql server.

server Error: 17882, Severity: 18, State: 1
server Error accepting connection request via Net-Library 'SSNETLIB'.
Execution continuing...

server Error: 17059, Severity: 18, State: 0
server Operating system error 0: The operation completed successfully...

Thanks
Tiff
