Post subject: How does this site look to you
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Hi,

I have been asked to evaluate this site http://www.dutchderwish.com/ for
an award only I cannot view the pages very well as on my PC the text and
background are too similar.

I would like to know if it is my settings or is it hard for others to
see.

Thanks

Gerald

The site is very poorly designed. You are right about the color contrast
between text and background being a problem. Also doorway page doesn't fit
on an 800x600 screen without horizontal scrolling, and the main site is done
in 3 frames that all require horizontal scrolling. It's horrible.

* scrollbars at 800x600
* frames and bars everywhere!

This site is unuseable to me and about half of the viewers out there.

very minimilist - nice black screen

a quick peek at the source reveals no text but: src="index.swf"

what sort of award? I recommend this site as the least accessible site I
have seen all week.

Thanks guys, I was beginning to think my eyes were going or the monitor
was on the way out.

I am the webmaster for www.animals-in-distress.net I don't claim to have
a great site but I hope its not that bad.

Much better, although I think it's a little heavy on ads/awards/notices.

It would be more legible in a sans-serif font with a solid color behind the
text.

Unless the award is related to the Darwin Awards or the prize is something
to do with regurgitated lunch, discard this site. Unless you approve of
usability disasters being presented as "design".

After telling the applicant I could not evaluate the site I received this
reply

Thank you for evaluating the Dutchderwish-project.
Since the colorscheme is not a problem for other visitors, I see no need
to
alter the coloring-scheme. However, if more complaints about the coloring
should arise, and as an effect of that the scheme is altered, we'll be
sure
resubmit our project.

Thank you once more,

I don't think I could stand to look at it again

LOL, that's like a restaurant hoping to hear from the people that don't like
their food and won't be back.

Bormally I would approve in principle as I like flash and think (good) flash
is both underated and misunderstood.

However, even I did notbelieve what I saw when I entered the site - yes, the
fron page came up nicely with a good flash lead in that loaded quickly and
sugested some promise. BUT the next page shock horro, was made of 3 frames -
early 80s style with all the frame bars visable (and taking up a good slice
of the screen.

What stopped me going any further was that each frame - including the nav
frame were completely flash. Badly done flash I might add and over the top -
even for this normally accepting flash person.

A vote for the award - Yuk, thumbs down, out of 10? - have to be minus 100

Talk about arrogance and stupidity! Where do they get off? They have a
flash only site, with poor contrast? I shant even bother taking a
look, I have a bad enough headache already.
