I left my c-h-e-s-s.com and my chatty.net sites unattended on the same hosting plan,
and the next time I checked low and behold there's a new subdomain!!
www.chessit.com

The chat server does most of the work, I just changed "rooms" to "games" and "user"
to "player" to convert to a chess tournament server. Same idea could be used for MMP gaming,
adding graphics to the old Multi User Dungeons.

Running prototype, anyone can move the chess pieces around, minor bug when changing rooms
but still runs. IE only at the moment. Try different screen sizes the chess board is fluid..

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.c-h-e-s-s-.com" target="_blank">www.c-h-e-s-s-.com</a> is impressive. I don't like Chess, but I know
enough to see it really does play.

And <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.chatty.net" target="_blank">www.chatty.net</a> is also impressive. Well I think so anyway. A use
for frames no less!

that is great! where you used
rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR

I did
RNBQKBNRPPPPPPPP................................pppppppprnbqkbnr

I just send it like its what someone typed in chat, find it in the display
routine and truncate it off and send it to the chess board.

But can you drag and drop pieces? Can I use the images of the pieces? I want a
few selectable sets.

Of course not. The page is just for displaying a board -- not for playing.

I was just thinking you should play a few games with it, when you get some
spare time. It's designed for novices so you should be able to beat it
after a few games. It only looks 2 moves ahead each side so you can
set up forks and pins for an easy victory.

this is my flagship, we maintained 20 people online chatting one night, lasted 5 hours
and they made 10,000 messages. I thought it was going to fire up permanently. That
would have made me an easy $50,000!

2 moves ahead? You mean I'd have to look ahead?!!! Forks? Pins? I
think I'll stick to dominoes, thanks anyway!

So why isn't it advertised anywhere?

Deep Blue looked 20 moves ahead! actually 10 moves per side.

I've paid for 30,000 visitors so far, the trick is to funnel visitors in when there's some
activity already going on. Chat rooms have a threshold for how much traffic you need
before its effective, keeping a dozen people online 24 hours a day is a lot! Google
would be useless for this, 100 hits a day is about $30 and that's one visitor every 15
minutes, the last visitor is long gone by then.
