Why are you including an XHTML Transitional DOCTYPE without trying to
validate it as such? For show?

The greens you use are very bland. I look at the site and I see "military"
before "environmental".

The design is too loose, making impotent use of available real estate.

Hi Adi..

You might want to choose a new topic next time. I use Google Groups,
and it bases replies on topic. You've used a very common one and are
message 240 in the thread Smile

But I gotta say... kudos on the site. I'm not a huge fan of the green
you've chosen, but the layout is awesome IMO. I checked our source..
and awesome there as well. Clean, quick loading code. No large
graphics (your dial-up customers will love ya for that). Also
well-done meta tags.

In browsing the page, I did run into one error:
When I clicked on Site Map then Sponsers, I received the following
error:

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/sponsors.asp, line 58
The include file 'inc_menu.asp' was not found.

But this is an easy fixed Smile

For the most part, I like the site.

Your "Link to The Environment Site" page could do with making look a little bit
better, but all in all your site is very nice. A bit GREEN tho !

Smile, you're probably right. Its all done using style sheets so I'll see how

Do you mean military as in boring or you think its a military site? I tried
to go for functionality and speed first and foremost, using Google and
Amazon as examples that are basic sites that do the job well.

Sorry, I don't really understand what you mean by this. Do the pages not
have enough content? It would be very helpful if you could elaborate so I
could consider possible changes.

Military as in military. I see that dim shade of green and I think
military. They just don't seem to go with an environmental site which
should be bright, vibrant and lively. Of course, my eyes are not your
eyes.

Here we go then:

1. The lighter green of the title bar extends past the border, making it
look like it's leaking out.

2. The space you give the title "The Environment Site.org" is overlarge and
completely for a simple text title.

3. The "Sitemap, Sponsors..." etc links and the search box could easily be
moved up into the empty space of the title box. Shrink the "// Home / The
Environment Site.org" and place it under the title. You noe have 50-70
pixels more vertical viewing space.

4. Lack of some type of border around the "Environment News" column does
not define it well enough. This is especially set off because you use a
plethora of borders on the column to the right.

5. In the right side column... I know what time it is, you don't need to
tell me. And in fact, the longer I leave your site open, the more it is in
error.

6. The brown "Latest..." titles do not fill the entire column, making it
look like your CSS is in error.

7. The borders of the two right side content boxes are not the same width.
Also bad styling.

8. In the "Latest Eco-tips" content box, bad planning of tabular content
makes this box at least a third higher than it needs to be. The left
column of this content box (the side with the titles like "Taps" and
"Screensavers") looks decidedly empty. I suggest putting the titles in
bold, and then just putting the "tip" underneath.

9. Also in this content box, all of the "tips" are cut off with ellipses
(...) and there isn't a clear link to where the rest of the text is.

10. Your links are in a smaller font than the surrounding text. I find
this annoying, but YMMV.

11. What is the purpose of the doormouse? You should supply a caption to
this picture to give it some relevance. Otherwise it's superfluous.

12. Skip the <ul> of "Click to Donate, Shop to Donate..." etc since you
list them right away underneath and in the drop down menu. There's another
150 pixels of vertical space freed up.

13. Does it matter who posted the "Latest Forum topics"? Drop all the
"Admin"s from that box.

14. As mentioned before, the right column unbalances the entire site since
it bears no relation to the left column. Where one is separated from the
main content box, the other is attached; where one has no borders, the
other is overflowing with them in all different styles; where one has a
normal sized font for its title, the other has a smaller bold font with
strange border-styles.

I haven't even left the front page yet... shall I go on?

Grey

Thanks for pointing that one out, initially the site was going to be in asp
but I changed it to php, must have missed a link off. Thanks for your

Hi Adi,

Hehe.. I prefer PHP as well. I have TONS of pages in Cold Fusion
which I'm in the process of converting to PHP myself. Getting every
link and piece of code matched-up can be a chore... but worth it in
the long run.

Take care,

analysis of the site though, I'm going to seriously look at the suggestions
you made and see what I can do.

Very nice...
The color scheme is both applicable and interesting...
The *only* thing I question is the URL in the 2nd box, from the top ...I don't
see any purpose for it...?
Very nice, though. Well done.

The programming seems to be very nice. Im not a big fan of that puke green
though. When I think "environmental" I think of a forest green and darker
brown. Also, Im a big fan of pictures and graphics. I understand you want to
make it simple and fast but even google's and amazon's Site titles are done
in a small graphic. And maybe a picture of some trees and a few more
animals. You could make the background of the table where your title is some
kind of tree background. And make the title a small graphic that looks like
woodgrain. It shouldnt take much more time to load.

But overall, its a nice site just not very visually stimulating IMO.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I've inserted a graphical banner at the top of the home page, have a look
and see if that looks any better.
