hi group,

we've got a new site up at www.dataspheric.com. we'd appreciate any
comments, even mean ones. tell Tom how much sense it makes to talk about
somebody other than yourself on the index page. gently hint that while a
great coder, his graphic skills (evidenced by his logo) leave something to
be desired. Aw heck, why should i put words in your mouth? let 'er rip.

http://www.dataspheric.com/services/ is a combination sales pitch and
client/webmaster resource. we kind of threw open the hood on this one. i
think our SEO links page rocks, if you know of a better one we'll link to
it.

we'll be going over it in a day or so to remove any errors, everything we
do for ourselves we tend to do in off hours or in a hurry. bug reports
appreciated.

Yup colors quite good - but on to criticism Smile
The World apparently massaging itself looks like a dying orca. The globe is
too faint.
The little flicky bits at the top menu don't do much do they - apart from
flick.
For me the successes page is too long and could be broken into several
distict successes as I hate scrolling ?

LMAO

hum....you have me stumped there....flicky bits? you mean the top
horizontal navigation? they are CSS, what browser are you using? please
don't say 4.x.

ok, if you could navigate then the flicky bits aren't the nav. yeah, and at
over 100k this page could use some lightening up. we plan to do just what
you said, break it out into separate pages for each client. we've got loads
more to add, not a lot of time to add them.

thanks ever so much for your lookover, i really appreciate your input.

A couple of comments about the accessibility of your site from a lynx
user's perspective:

The site appears to work well with Lynx (which a lot of sites don't)
so you don't appear to have any major accessibility problems that I can
spot (unless you have some JavaScript features I didn't see -- I didn't
look at the HTML source code).

The two flash movies I downloaded (linked from your "successes" page)
both work with Apple's Quicktime so you avoided using the very latest
Flash features that generate "Invalid media" error messages for those
who don't have the latest Macromedia player that just came out this
week/month/whatever (although both tried to launch Firefox and start an
Internet connection at the end when I was already connected to my
text-only account with a terminal program -- no problem, I just clicked
on "Cancel" and closed Firefox). I don't know enough about blind user's
habits and preferences to know whether a voice-over audio track in the
flash move or a separate downloadable audio file would be preferable for
blind visitors for full accessibility (or whether either would interfere
with their screen-readers and be annoying). I really *hate* downloading
a flash movie (some a couple of megabytes) only to get an "Invalid media"
error dialog box and nothing displayed when I double-click on it.

wow, far out. we're only testing with 5.X and above IE, FF and Moz.

Nope, it's a virgin so far.Not one lick of Javascript. When we get the text
resizer up there, then it will have some Javascript.

forgot about that, they both want to refresh to a url that doesn't exist
anymore. great, now i have to bother the designer to change them. might as
well de-link them.

My HTML Sampler page (which primarily covers HTML that works with Lynx)
has a number of links to stuff about web accessibility for the disabled.
(I'm still learning more about it every day.) See the three sections:

The "Any Browser" Campaign, Accessibility:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/html.html#partB5" target="_blank">http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/html.html#partB5</a>
Designing an Accessible Web Site:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/html.html#partBa" target="_blank">http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/html.html#partBa</a>
Validation and Accessibility Checking:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/html.html#partB6" target="_blank">http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~af380/html.html#partB6</a>

It is well worth your while to download the "Dive Into Accessibility"
documentation that I link to (available as a zipped package of HTML files
or as a zipped PDF file). Then you can have it available at all times,
even when you're not on-line.

For statistics on the number of blind and visually impaired people,
see my post to the thread, "Subject: Re: Standards biased web
development?" in this newsgroup, Message-ID:
