Hi what should be shown when http://localhost/ is put in the address bar of
IE6? I on my computer at home I get 2 browser windows, one with

localstart.asp

and the other with

iishelp/iis/misc/default.asp

On one computer at the college I get an error message about page not found
and on another there is a listing of the files in the wwwroot directory. No
one has been able to get IIS to work properly on any computer yet we are
supposed to make a web site using ASP and Access. Due to the way the
computers are set up at the college we are unable to install or change any
programs and the lecturer doesn't seem to have a clue as it works on his
computer in his staff room. But he can do whatever he wants to that
computer. So is there a site anywhere that deals with the setting up and
configuring of IIS in windows XP Pro?

Thanks Sophie

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

1: Your computer at home is showing what it should be
showing after a default install of IIS.
2: The first computer at your college doesn't have the
above files you named in the default home directory, or
someone has changed the default directory in the IIS
properties.
3: On the other computer, someone has checked the
directory browsing checkbox in the IIS properties, and
the default document isn't present in that directory.

One thing to make sure is that whatever your default
document is set as in the IIS properties, make sure you
have a file named that in your home directory.

And...the lecturer should know how to fix this.

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.iisfaq.com" target="_blank">www.iisfaq.com</a> is a very good site for setting this up.
