osCommerce .
AgoraCart
CubeCart
Zen Cart
phpShop

The above shopping carts are available on most hosting sites with easy
installation already setup.

I am looking for a shopping cart that is easy for store merchants to
setup and use without having to learn programming. I used osCommerce
about a year ago. I spent several months trying to get it setup and
customized. I don't want to go through that long a learning curve
again.

The features I am looking for are:
Ability to upload photos and data for merchandise
track customer referrals
use PayPal for accepting credit cards
Select various shipping methods
Discount certificates and gift certificates

Thank you in advance for the input.

Mark,

Thank you for your offer. I have looked at Salery but I am not
interested.

Hi, Mark,

Take a look at the live site examples of the osCommerce and other
shopping carts mentioned in the OP and compare them to what you
present on your site. There appears to be a world of difference; more
than I can try to describe.

I have product lines that exceed 3000 products from just one catalog
and I plan to be posting many catalogs. (no, none of them is SMC, but
that may be an option to add later.)

I will need many versatile features including duplication with minimal
effort, customer tracking, sales tracking, the ability to turn
products on and off for availability, acceptance of gift
certificates, discount coupons, and referral tracking. All of these
features and more are available in osCommerce, but I am hoping to find
someone with a template or something that will save me time, or who
can show me the comparisons with similar carts being used live.

Thanks for the replies.

Howdy Buck,

The easier you are looking for, the more spoiled banannas you are going to
find in the resulting web pages. The only way to do it right is hire a real
Webmaster.

Drop by www.bizycart.com and ramble around a bit. The "easy" is I'll do all
of the set up and all you need to do is learn to use the management
interface pages. The BIZyCart Ecommerce Server has over 500 Kb of source
code and will handle virtually everything an on-line store needs without any
additional scripts.

You may use the free basic version of BIZyCart you configure
yourself or you can arrange for a customized version that integrates
completely with your existing web pages. For a very reasonable
amount, your web pages can look like you spent thousands of dollars on
their development.
//endquote

I was unable to find the free basic version. I would like to see it
and play with it a bit. Would I do that on my home computer or on the
website? I don't have the site or the domain name(s) just yet.

Thanks
Buck

Ok, does this mean I can't use it on my own website where I already
pay for hosting?

Howdy Buck,

You can leave your web pages where they currently are and use BIZyCart's
remote mode. However, we still need to charge the $24.95 a month to cover
our resources, tech support, and hosting for your data storage on our secure
servers. We provide far more than you will find anywhere else and we can't
do it for fun.

Not take us long to move you over so you are only paying one hosting fee.

Thanks, Chris www.bizynet.com and www.bizycart.com

Does anyone host their own online biz site or is it just too much a
hassle and better off having some host company do it? Reason i ask is
that some people like to have control over their site. Also, if some
other company hosts your site, do they get a percentage of what you
sell from your online biz? Also, hosting companies have access to your
customers personal info through credit card transactions, so which ones
are reputable(trustworthy for not stealing from own client) and
secure(software that makes it harder for hackers to steal cc or paypal
info)? Thanks.

It is better to allow someone else to host your website. I like
Hostgator as they are resellers for another company who supplies
tremendous bandwidth and equipment along with 24/7 support and
equipment backup and duplication. This means if a network goes down
or in the event of equipment failure, they are on top of it already
and the system is back up as quickly as it goes down. If you have
your own and your provider has a problem, you are down at their
mercy. The cost of using a host is about $25/month vs an initial
deposit of thousands of dollars. This is less than the cost of any
reliable internet connection that I know of.

Also, you have full control over the content of your website. They
have some restrictions, but then, all providers do. You can setup a
store with the software they provide on their servers, or use your
own. you can use their SSL or buy your own and use it.

There is no cost based on your sales with most providers. There are
some resellers who will create your site, host your site and keep your
site updated for a percentage of your sales, but I find they are
really interested in bleeding your business dry. I am sure there are
some legitimate ones out there, but the two I ran across appeared to
be trying to steal my business.

If you don't want to have an employee working 24/7 for $25 or so per
hour, you probably want to rent from someone with the expertise and
staff to manage the hardware for you. You will still be responsible
for making backups of your site and keeping the software up and
running to the degree that you work with it properly. I believe
Hostgator will help you get the initial configuration of osCommerce or
whatever package you select setup, but you will have to maintain the
databases and inventory, etc.

I hope this is helpful.

I am using osCommerce on Bluehost with good results. DAGS for
xampp-win32-1.5.5-installer.exe if you want to run a local version for
setup. More stuff to learn = greater control of the finished product.

I'm a woodworker, not a web developer and my website shows it. But it's
functional -now- and 'the pretty' is on its way.
