Post subject: Using a .shop domain
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Hi,

Purchased a .shop domain from Registerfly recently and want to use it
with a dedicated server.

I've setup physical hosting for it at IP 69.64.32.109 (using Plesk 6).

Registerfly doesn't give exact info on how to do this-

http://www.registerflysupport.com/?mode=detail&detailid=14214&id=2030&...icleid=

Which says-
------------------------------
::Question
I represent a Web host company, how can I configure my nameservers to
support New.net domains?

:: Answer
When a New.net domain name is purchased, the owner is assigned both
www.pie.shop and www.pie.shop.new.net. This ensures that the website
can be accessed both by users who access the Internet via one of
New.net's ISP partners and users that use the New.net plug-in to
recognise New.net domains.

In the above example, users with access to New.net domains via the
plug-in will send the URL of www.pie.shop.new.net and users with
access via ISP partners will send the URL of www.pie.shop. Because
there are two different requests that can be sent to the nameserver,
it is very important to recognise both forms of the domain name and
keep them synchronized. To do this, you would need to create two
separate zone files, one for www.pie.shop and the other for
www.pie.shop.new.net, and they both need to point to the same A Record
or IP Address.
------------------------------

I don't know how to do this, anyone here used Registerfly to do this?

Does this mean I need to setup-

ns.pie.shop and ns.pie.shop.new.net?

And if so how with Registerfly when it won't register nameservers for
..shop domains!!

Thanks

David

sorry to hear about your bad purchase (SP)

to me their instructions sound like you make the web folder/index.html at
the ip address you gave them then make an exact copy of it and put a
different name on it.
the name they tell you to put on it.

I realised that about an hour after purchasing it when I read the
new.net bit and the plugin rubbish!!

Since I can have unlimited domains (dedicated server) and I own the
domain for a year I might as well use it for something. I have a load
of SEO tests I want to do and this will be perfect for a few of them
related to domain names.

I'm sure you already know this, but just wanting to make sure...you can't
put unlimited domains on any server. Every server has a limit. Go over
that limit, and bad things start happening. Wink

Most people are just redirecting them to TLD domains if you read the site.
Name servers don't handle new.net extensions.

What .shop did you get? Considering girlshop.com makes $1,000,000 a year
I can part with galshop.com for $10,000, ok 5K. Even got 2 affiliates Very Happy

Still trying to sell that domain then Smile)

I'm still not interested and never will be since the value in a domain
to me is in it's name and that one is worthless as no one will search
for galshop.

Even the word girlshop is very low traffic (Wordtracker - 30 odd
searches a day) so it isn't a big brand name people search for.

I don't see how girlshop.com and galshop.com relate to one another?
It's like saying if you own the domain gaggle.com you are going to own
a large and very successful search engine.

It does? Do they also operate a high street boutique? Their web site
is not inspiring.

Er yes. Obviously inspired by girlshop.com, still uses silly colour
schemes but now very slow to load and parse, could it be it was
created in Dreamweaver? Sure looks like it <g>

That's not very nice Graham Cooper, of Toowoomba, Australia. In fact I
find it very offensive, perhaps I should send a complaint to:

Actually I think I can get the shop running.
If I've got a lot of links to my chess site <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.c-h-e-s-s.com" target="_blank">www.c-h-e-s-s.com</a> over
a few years, enough to get 100 uniques a day when I added
some SEO text, THEN

If I only have one link from c-h-e-s-s to galshop, galshop should get
85% of the PR shouldn't it? 85% is about the dampening factor for PR right?

So with SEO text on galshop it should/might get 100 or so uniques a day
thanks to the PR from c-h-e-s-s ?? I'm trying it this week. Then the
affiliates should build it up with viral marketing like amazon used.

But its Alexa 10,000. You're getting 5,000 uniques a day on Alexa
30,000. That means girlshop is flogging you, and must be getting
20,000 - 40,000 uniques a day. And they're not porn browsers
like your shop visitors, they're women, the shoppers in life!

non meaningful analogy, galshop is MORE brandable than girlshop IMO.
I am going to own a bigger search engine than google. Just bought the name.

Try to work out the next big search engine name. Imagine a new born 'yaaahooooo'
Imagine a toddler 'goooogle'

Now the next internet trend is towards animated characters and flash. What
would a young cyberperson finished with his yahooing and googling look up to?

MrFind.com Very Happy Very Happy
