Post subject: setting up virtual directories and user logins
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

I'm familiar with the httpd.conf, but very new to setting up virtual
directories for separate qualified domains. If I can get some
suggestions, or pointed to a source to help me out I'd appreciate it.

What I'm wanting to do set up my Web host to host qualified domains:
www.1.com www.2.com etc.
I'd LIKE to keep them all in the default directory /var/www/html/ ,
but, what if we want each separate domain to have its own account that
they can FTP into, and even SSH and not be able to go past their
domain's directory?

We're getting a brand new server, and I want to set it up right. Our
current server we have all the domains and matching user accounts
going to /home/their_domain_name, and the virtual directories pointing
there.

If that IS the best way, then cool. If there's a better way,
though....

Thanks for any advice!!
Liam

This have nothing to do with Apache, setup a chrooted environment
for every account.

Ah! OK, I looked into chroot and that does sound like the perfect method!!
But, am I reading it right, that you can only do that in the named.conf for
Bind?
What if our Web server is a leased server in some remote datacenter where we
use the NOC's DNS servers? Is there a way to chroot when we don't have
access to the DNS servers themselves?
Can you use an alternate/additional named.conf appart from the servers
running Bind?

If you have a good site or something that helps, just point me to it and
I'll read up and study on my own. I just don't know where to look. A google
search has basically told me no more than what Linux In A Nutshell has,
which isn't much.

Thanks!!
