Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

I am very confused. I am running apache 1.33 and PHP 4.3.1.0. I have no idea
what to do with either to enable SSL. I have read that PHP needs to be
compiled with some openssl option. And I understand I have to make some
apache configurations. Can someone point me in the right direction? I don't
even know where to start...

thanks,

brian

I have completely followed the directions here:

http://tud.at/programm/apache-ssl-win32-howto.php3

I seem to have SSL set up, but to test it, I enter

http://localhost:443

or

https:/localhost

and get a page can not be displayed error (works fine if I just do
http://localhost, but that is not testing ssl of course...)

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be
experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings

Any idea how I can test the server? In ssl.log I don't see errors - just
info lines.

BTW - I am doing this on winxp pro...

any help is appreciated!

In order for PHP to make ssl calls, it needs to be compiled with the openssl
option, which I don't know how to do. I tend to use things out of the box
(i.e. an installer package), and PHP installers don't install openssl-ready
versions of PHP.
