Suppose i have 2 servers
ServerFast is very fast but has limited disk space
ServerSlow is quite a bit slower but has nearly unlimited storage
My DNS points to ServerFast.

I want to create a situation where, when a request comes into
ServerFast for a page or an item on a page that ServerFast attempts
to get the page or item from the ServerFast local drive but if it
doesnt find it there it will instead go get it from SreverSlow.
This should be entirely transparent to the user.

ie: A request for an html page (or a jpg or a cgi) comes to ServerFast.
ServerFast looks on its local drive to try to fulfill it.
If it finds it there everything proceeds as any normal web site.
Else, it attempts to go get the item from ServerSlow (where it will
find it for sure) and then servers it out as normal.
I hope I've explained this clearly...
Thanks
Eric

Yes you did. Why don't you just install a Proxy on the fast server
that gets the pages from the slow server if they aren't already
cached? Or better yet: add disk space.

I dont have control of the Fast Server and they will only allow me limited
disk space. My thought was to keep infrequently used images/pages on the
slow server and put the most often used stuff on the fast server. Maybe I
can install a proxy on FastServer, what proxy's would you recommend for a
Linux based system? for a windows based system? Would i need to install
anything on slowServer?
Thanks

May I suggest you get a different ISP?

And this is exactly what a proxy does.

Squid is fine.

No.
