Howdy Bob,

Whoever built your web site stuck the screws to you.

I almost gave up waiting for your home page to come up and I'm on a 500 kb
connection. I rarely see a web site that is so poorly coded that it drags
out that long.

I had to wander around and experiment to find where to click an order
button.

When I did find one, the Java script errors made a mess of the resulting
page. I finally found the Check Out button (that was off my 800 wide
screen) and it sent me down the street to collect your money.

You are selling products people must trust you to deliver and if you don't
qualify for a merchant card account, it kinda puts a hole in things.

I've spent years evolving the style and layout for ecommerce sites that get
order buttons clicked and it makes me really angry to see someone like
yourself abused like this.

hey bob,
i'm kinda new to SEO but i can tell you one big thing that worked for
me.
i had used swap image buttons for navigation like the ones you have
and google never indexed more than my first page. as soon as i
switched to text links bam.. less than 2 weeks later my entire site
was indexed and my pagerank soared to 2/10... doesn't sound like much
but it got me excited. if you can get away from all the javascript you
have it will greatly increase your chances of getting ranked. run you
site through this spider simulator and you will see what i mean
http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-spider-simulator.php . forget
overture and other ppc programs for now, concentrate on cleaning up
your site, and try to develop some backlinks. get rid of the error
messages that keep popping up and the dangling script tags that show
up in the shopping cart. find some successful ecommerce sites and
examine the order process. that should help you identify the snags in
your cart.

good luck with the site

Hi Bob,

Maybe a Mainer can help u sell some of that lobster after all...First,
I want to emphasize that I agree with the text links idea. Very
important- google even tells you to create your site that way (see
below).

Be aware that your title tag is very important. Currently, when I
click on the "lobsters" link it brings me to a page with the title tag
"products". This title tag would be much better if it described what
you were selling -good both for the user and for the googlebot...

Your site could definitely use much more optimization then that but
I'm short on time this morning so I'll leave you with this:

Use a document type, too. The W3C QA Activity maintains a List of
Valid Doctypes. You can find the info at:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html" target="_blank">http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html</a>

After you choose a doc type go back and make sure your HTML coding is
good by using the tool at the following url:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://validator.w3.org/detailed.html" target="_blank">http://validator.w3.org/detailed.html</a>

I would also add that aside from text links, introduce a site map
and fill in those alt tags to make your site more accessible for all
users. See all of Google's site
design tips & guidelines at the url below
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html" target="_blank">http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html</a>

I hope this helps~

Best,

Roland Girouard
