: XP Pro runs on every new laptop I've seen. Why not ask the
: manufacturer if they sell it with XP Pro? Most do since the same
: laptop gets used in the business world, and XP Home is useless in a

:
: FWIW, all HP, Dell, IBM, Toshiba, Panasonic and Gateway laptops have
: XP Pro available.

You'll be lucky to find a computer in town with XP Pro installed on it.

Good point. I'm in Houston. I have yet to find a system, other than from a
distributor who is willing to build one, with XP Pro on it already. Compaq
used to offer this or that when you unpacked the drive, but now HP/Compaq
doesn't. You can get it with XP Pro, but the deals are like cars, better
deals on what is already in stock and those come with the Home Edition.
Must be a bigger market at the retail level for home users so I'm sure it's
economics. I don't think it is a true comparison though since they do not
stock XP Pro, do not offer the deals with it, and you can't get it today.
While I don't believe XP Pro would out sell XP Home, at the retail level, I
do believe it would take a big bite out of the XP Home Edition market. Most
people I talk to say, "That is what came with it" as the reason to having
Home vs Pro.

I'm not real happy with XP either but I cannot see a reason to go back to a
single tasking, text-based OS.

hehe, I just love black Surprised\

Seriously though, my personal favourite is 2K (more stable than 9x, and not
as bloated as XP etc)
