Post subject: How to reduce the transfer sc-bytes for a blank page
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,

In a ASP page, I have code
if ... then
response.clear
response.end
end if
If satisfy the above condition, the client will receive a blank page.
For such a blank page, the sc-bytes recorded in the log file is about
300 bytes.
My question is how to (or can I) do something to reduce the transfer
sc-bytes for a blank page?

Thank you in advance.

Tom Kaminski,

The page is an empty page, what you meant by "compression"?

No....that need to do something in the server which is not my PC.
The page is an empty page, 300 sc-bytes are for transfering information
behand the page?
In fact, 300 sc-bytes is very small, but I got a few hundred such pages.

But when it's transferred over the Internet using the HTTP protocol, an
empty page is not an empty page. You still have the file header that cannot
go away because it will then no longer capable of being transferred from
server to client.

Thank you.

OK. However, I have noteced the transfer bytes are quite different
between "IIS at my PC to browser at my PC" and "The remote server to
browser at the user's PC". Hence, I am thinking how to reduce the
trasfer bytes.
