Post subject: who is the most reasonable vendor for validating credit cards?
Archived from groups: alt>ecommerce (more info?)

Hello, I am working on a small site that will sell between $0 and $300
of items per month here in the US (no sales to other countries yet).
We have our own shopping cart and form for collecting shipping info.
What we are looking for is a service in which we can pass a total sale
amount, and the service will collect the customer's billing info and
validate their credit card payment.

What is the most reasonable and economical service we should go with?
2checkout.com has been mentioned, but the 5.5% transaction fee seems
kind of steep. Does anyone know of a better service?

Thanks, - Dave

Paypal is by far the cheapest, 2.9% going down to 2.2% and even 1.9%.

Is a customer forced to create a PayPal account or can they enter
credit card info without creating such an account?

Thanks again for your reply, - Dave

No they have updated Paypal recently so you dont have to have a Paypal
account anymore to pay with a credit card. Check out their website all the
info is there.
