Whenever you see the following as the "crash":
<module_name>!_chkstk
It means that the module wanted and is allowed to grow the stack but failed
due to insufficient memory. It usually does not mean the module is the
problem (after all, the module just wanted more stack space and the process
had the process space for it -- perfectly reasonable) -- unless the module
has a nested loop and is incorrectly chewing up stack memory.
That doesn't look like the case here, so the problem is basically "out of
memory" condition on the server.
We will need to figure out WHY your server is running out of memory
(assuming you have enough physical RAM to support the normal working set
memory required by the server's applications). How much physical RAM is on
this machine and what sorts of application(s) are running on it?
It is not clear whether the custom COM component caused the low memory
condition, or it also failed because the server ran out of memory (i.e. it
could have crashed because it allocated memory, didn't check if it returned
NULL [low memory would cause this], and when it dereferenced the memory...
bam, access violation).
So, at minimum, you are looking at one bug in the custom COM component you
are using, but there may be other problems. I would start with PerfMon to
take a log of private and committed memory of the entire system to see
whether a memory leak or memory fragmentation is causing "out of memory",
and go from there.
