Send an appropriate signal to the popped up window
from the parent window, triggered with a onUnload event.

But _don't_ use popup windows, unless you have a very
particular reason that overrides accessibility.
They're accessibility nightmares. And always warn the
visitor that the link will open in a new window.

On second thought, that doesn't even work.
The onUnload event has to be in the popped window itself.
onUlload="closeWindow()"

IIRC you can't use a script to open a window that the user has opened.
