I'm tempted to remind you of their terms and conditions. If you are
wanting free hosting from them, surely you are willing to accept the
T of S: <http://www.virtualave.net/t/join/joinsignup/jointos>

From what I saw, you get a pop-up if you don't allow them to put a
banner advert on each page. If you hate adverts so much, you might
want to dig into your pocket and you can get hosting space without a
single pop-up, banner, or text link. If you don't like their terms,
then look for another host. Perhaps www.portland.co.uk will do you
space without the adverts to go toward hosting costs. Peter M.

There are loads of ways to stop pop-up ads (such as use Opera) but
the poster wants to use hosting space and stop pop-ups so visitors
don't get annoyed, which perhaps didn't "jump out at you". Peter.

I have you agree here. When you offer free webhosting...it's coming out of
someone's pocket. They have to be able to pay for the services they run. I
think the quote "You get what you pay for" goes really well with this topic.
