Just put an ad on ebay.com for my house-sales site. It's a real-estate
listing.

Placed it 24 hours ago, quite impressed.

Check out this graph of my stats, see if you can see when the ad kicked in:

Looks like you're gonna need another chart!

Doohickeys?.....

Certainly.

I was just thinking about you and my fellow webmasters in this regard.

For the hosts and designers it may not be as effective. I'm not sure how
many people go to ebay for such things.

Electrical goods on the other hand, are prime ebay material.

It's not an ad as such, it's simply a normal listing, in this case in the
real-estate category.

Being mindful of ebay's rules where you actually have to offer something
for sale, I have offered a voucher for sale, with relevant links to my
site.

Having said that, I had a bit of a squiz at ebay before I placed the
listing. There seems to be a few blatant ads, which have not been taken
down.

I would strongly recommend you get the featured-plus listing (or whatever
it's called) which keeps your ad at the top half of the search and browse
results.

Equally I would recommend a good picture which you can make out at a
small resolution, to include in the gallery view.

What you could do is select just one of your products and list it for
sale. (Alternatively a voucher may be worth a try).

To stay within ebay's rules, you can't make it a blatant ad for your
site, but you can show a link for "full specifications" etc.

In your case I would make it a ten-day listing. You don't want to sell
it, but display it for the maximum time!

I used ebay.com for maximum exposure. If you ship worldwide, that's
where I would put it. I was able to sign on to the .com site using my
..co.uk credentials.

In the case of my ad, it is displayed for 30 days because it is real-
estate, not cheap of course at $170. But for non real-estate stuff, it's
a fraction of this cost.

This is my listing out of interest:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://tinyurl.com/28mdz" target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/28mdz</a>

Give it a try!

Maybe and maybe not but who is to say I could not offer a gift certificate
or some such thing which would not be much different than your 'voucher'

Or I could offer a sort of 'voucher' myself for oh I don't know say a script
installation
at a $5 discount etc. and have that discount reflected in the ebay price I
set.

This is interesting Charles. I had often seen those real estate 'ads' as I
am keeping
an eye on property in Texas but I had never though to utilize such a thing
myself
until now...

I found a URL for your post:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://tinyurl.com/25ywn" target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/25ywn</a>
But I don't understand why you only charge 9.99 for your house. What if
somebody bought it?
You paid 170 for the AD and it is every expensive. I don't understand what
you are trying to gain here

It isn't to buy a house. It is to list your house for sale on his website.
That is why it is only 9.99.

Aside from that you should see the prices some of the land in West
Texas has been going for... most would consider it a steal due to the
amount of acreage but "I hear anyway" the land is really bad for building
and pretty much everything so the 'bargain' isn't really that great a
bargain.

what is the idea to list something on the site for 9.99 but paying ebay a
lot of fees?
what i don't understand is "It pays to advertise" sounds like it is a good
deal for the site. Is it cheaper than google adwords (5c per click)?

depends on the interest generated.

There was a girl from Birmingham that offered herself on marriage (to
promote her hosting business).

Looks like you shouldn't expect any traffic on the 9th-12th. A perfect
weekend to unplug the server for routine maintainance. Wink

The listing contains links to my website. The idea is to introduce my
site to new users, and get a lot more visitors to it.

It is more an ad for my site, than an auction of a voucher.

It's only been up one day, but so far the results are very encouraging,
and well worth $170 per month.

This is much cheaper then Adwords. When I last ran them for this site I
was paying a lot more than 5 cents! Even if I could get Adwords at 5
cents, the ebay listing is still much better value judging by the results
so far.

In short, the listing is bringing a lot of new visitors to my site. Do
you understand that?

Did both the hosting offer and herself come with a free 30 day trial, money
back guarantee, and unlimited downloads?
