First of all, apologies if this is the wrong group for this question -- I
can't seem to find a more appropriate one.

I just bought a domain name and am a bit unsure about something. The
domain name company offer web forwarding to another site (such as ISP
webspace). I have this setup and it works, however...

If I try to access a folder on the server:

www.mydomain.com/foldername

I get a 'not found' error page. It seems that web forwarding only lets you
access the _main_ page of the site, not some other resource or folder on
the server.

So how can I make my domain name work for any resource/folder?

If you consider microsoft.com, for example, you can navigate to
microsoft.com/msdn to get to the msdn folder.

How can I achieve this?

Note that this is just an example -- my real domain name isn't
'mydomain.com'.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Get paid hosting that allows domain support.
I recommend Page-Zone, the link is in my signature.
Reasonable prices and great plans.

Good luck in your quest. Smile I still remember moving from
ISP/Free space to paid hosting.

Ah, so the key phrase for this is /domain support/, right? Just so I know
what to search/ask for...

Thanks for the hint. I'll check it out.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

At a guess, your domain name is delegated to your registrar's server, and
simply loaded <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mydomain.com" target="_blank">www.mydomain.com</a> in a 100% frame.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.yourdomain.com/foldername" target="_blank">www.yourdomain.com/foldername</a> doesn't physically exist. You would need to
get your site hosted, to be able to link directly in the way you describe.

Regards

Gary

That's right. Sorry -- I should've mentioned that.

Would I need to get it hosted with the company that I registered the domain
with, or just any hosting company?

You can get it hosted through anyone. You could even host it yourself if
you *really* knew what you were doing.

Not enough exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!

What's a cheezel?

Never mind. I just found them at
http://www.whatimissmost.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/22/products_id/31.

Lois (from the other side of the world, where I almost never use exclamation
marks)
