Hello all,
Another newbie question:
You have your domain hosted at a certain webhost and registered at a
certain registrar A.
The registration period is approaching expiry date and You're planning
to move the DNS links registered at another registrar B to save some
bucks.
Is it possible to register the domain name at the registrar B before
expiry? Am I right in thinking that such overlap prevents temporary
lose of access?
Thanks gurus for throwing some thoughts.

Done every day.
Actually, you can transfer to the new host/dns any time.
You just need to contact your current host/dns supplier what's going to be
done.
Then contact the new agent.
In turn, they contact they each other, then you get a letter to verify
what's going on.
Once all that's taken care of, the transfer takes place.
Some times, you'll run into an agent who is reluctant to give up.
Technically, they can not deny you the right to transfer.
But they could make it difficult.

Been there done that.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Not only possible but highly recommended!
There is no overlap. Transfering your name to a new registrar involves a
renewal fee of one or more years (your choice) - the renwal extends the
registration period by one or more years from the due expiration date. Thus,
if you have had the name for six months on a one year payment, and you
transfer to a new registrar and pay for one more year, you will in fact have
18 months left.
